Waffle Church
Sticky Faith for Friends and Families
An intergenerational worship service that lifts up the leadership and participation of children and youth, Waffle Church invites everyone to get a little messy along the way.
Waffle Church is made of songs, stories, construction paper, maple syrup, and the love of Jesus, and takes every second Sunday of the Month. Coffee's hot at 10:30 am, and service begins at 11:00 am.
You are very welcome!

FAQs

Worship begins at 11am. Arrive anytime after 10:30am to have a cup of coffee, familiarize yourself with the space, or help stir waffle batter. We usually conclude by 12:30pm. Worship encompasses our waffle-eating and even our shared clean-up. If you need to leave early or arrive late to accommodate naps or other realities of family life, you are welcome to slip in or out anytime.

At every Waffle Church service, we sing, pray, hear the stories of Scripture, celebrate communion by sharing bread and cup, feast on waffles, share peace and conversation, and finally clean-up! There is often movement, and sometimes an invitation to create art or crafts. Children and adults are invited to participate in every aspect of Waffle Church, including the bread and cup. Children are particularly curious about communion and often gather close to hear the story, see the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup, and to help distribute the elements to others.

Most everyone loves waffles; they are easy to make; they are delicious. Especially our waffles. Our volunteer waffle chefs make the batter from scratch: traditional waffles, savory waffle, sweet waffles, sometimes gluten free waffles! Waffles actually trace their roots back to the iron used to prepare communion wafers for the church in medieval Europe. What a coincidence!

Waffle Church is for everybody! All ages. Come alone. Come with friends. Come with a partner, a child, or a whole group. We may not all have children, but we have all BEEN children.

Everyone is a child of God and welcome in worship. Your child is invited to participate in the way they know how. If it would be helpful to communicate with us ahead of time about your child’s needs, please email us and we’ll do our best to welcome your child. Children (and adults) are invited to move around the space during worship. We have chairs and rugs and floor pillows. We have soft toys and books and crayons always available. And our worship is interactive, with music and movement and participation and often art. For very littles, know that there is a changing table in the bathroom and space for storing foldable strollers!

If you have particular dietary restrictions that you are concerned about (especially if you are gluten-free) please let us know in advance! We do our best to provide options. For communion, we use grape juice, not wine, and all the waffles are vegetarian-friendly.

Wear whatever you would like! There is no dress code at Waffle Church, but we do sometimes use paint, markers, and other potentially messy materials (always non-toxic and washable).
